A Warning From My Daughter
Last Sunday my daughter and I had enjoyed a little shopping therapy and we were on the way home. As I was approaching a red light this is our conversation--and oh btw she is 29 and I'm 53.
Daughter: "Be careful there is a cop car behind you."
Me: "What do you think I'm going to do? Run the red light? Peel out? Burn rubber? Squeal my tires? Leave some rubber on the asphalt.?"
Daughter: "Just don't do anything crazy."
I guess my reputation will stay with me forever. I know she doesn't know about this or this ... so what could it be?

Why I Love Rainy Weather
We here in Mississippi have had about six weeks of rain. While everybody was bemoaning this, I was reveling in it. I love rainy weather. I love the sound of rain, I love the feel of rain and I love the scent of rain. I love to hear the sound the rain makes on tree leaves, and the sound it makes falling on the deck outside... I love all types of rain--from torrential downpours to fine misty drizzle,
I have kept this fact to myself, because my friends look at me like I'm crazy when I mention it.
We have had a couple of weeks of sunshine and then today the skies turned gray, a gentle breeze began to blow and this afternoon the rain started. I was quietly ecstatic.
Since I'm a very analytical person I have been thinking of why I love rainy weather so much.
After thinking about it a great deal, I have come to this conclusion...
I grew up in a log house that my ggggrandfather built when he moved his family to Mississippi. The house had a tin roof and a large front porch. When the weather was stormy I would go out on the front porch, which faced the east, take the settee and two matching chairs and turn them upside down with their bottoms facing the outside of the porch. I would then pull out two old quilts and cover the chairs and settee with them. I would also take another old quilt and pillow and place them inside my "snuggy bug." I would crawl in there with my book or magazine and maybe the cat if I could coax her into it.
I would lie in there with my back to the old logs and if I had made my nest close to the only window that was on the front porch, I could hear Mama puttering around in the kitchen.
I would read my book or magazine and every so often lift the quilt up to peak out at the weather. It's hard to express the feeling of peace, safety, sanity and security that this made me feel. Outside my little nest the weather could be raging, but I was in a nest in a safe place that had been built many many years ago with my back to those ancient logs...and my Mama was inside.
So even these many years later when it rains or the skys turn gray, I feel peaceful.
If I'm anxious or stressed, I close my eyes and remember..........

Conversation With The Puppy Girls
Me: I need to talk to you girls about something.
CiCi and GinGin: What is it Mommy?
Me: Well, you know how you go over to play with Levi? (The Jack Russell next door)
CiCi and GinGin: Yeah Mommy, he's a lot of fun.
Me: It's not really nice the way you tease him.
CiCi and GinGin: What do you mean?
Me: Have you not noticed that you chase each other and when you run towards our yard he can't follow?
CiCi and GinGin: Yeah--that's pretty funny isn't it?
Me: Well, no it's not fair because you are teasing him.
GinGin: Why can't he follow? You know one time he followed me and chased me all the way to the back yard and I had to jump up in your arms.
Me: Yeah well that was kinda different, you know you were in uh... heat.
CiCi and GinGin: Oh yeah. And he kept barking when he tried to get back to his yard...what's up with that?
Me: That's what I was trying to tell you. He wears a collar and there is an invisible fence buried in the yard and when he tries to chase you it gives him a little shock.
CiCi and GinGin: What is a shock?
Me: Well..you know when yawl get up in my face and lick it and I tap you on your noses?
CiCi and GinGin: Yeah.
Me: Well it's kinda like that only a hundred times worse.
CiCi and GinGin: What is a hundred times?
Me: Okay, just take my word for it, stop going over there trying to get him to chase you back to your yard.
CiCi and GinGin: Why?\
Me: I just told you, it hurts him.
CiCi and GinGin: What is hurt?
Me: Hurt is when somebody steps on your tail.
CiCi and GinGin: Oh.
CiCi and GinGin: Well we can't help it if we are cute long-haired blonds and irresistible. He's on his own.
Me: Sigh........
(That's #4 grandchild asleep in the backround--the puppies are playing and I'm praying they won't wake her up)

Daddy's Home
That's right..David's home. The mighty hunter spent the last week in Colorado hunting elk with his buddies. And guess what, nobody came home with anything. Nothing. Nada. Now I can't say that I'm disapointed--but please don't tell him--'cause I don't ascribe to the whole hunting thing.
But this time I tried to be very supportive of him and honestly this is the first time that I haven't been mad at him for going. I just don't understand it and have always thought it was a big fat waste of time and money.
But we sat down and had a heart to heart talk. And this time I heard him when he told me how much it meant to him to get to go.
But like I said nobody even saw any elk. The only thing that he saw was...are you ready? That's right, Tom Brokaw. And of course my David marched right up to him and had his picture made with him. Love ya Daddy.

Kinda Chilly In Here
CiCi and GinGin: Mommy do you know that it is 64 degrees in the house?
Me: Yes and what's your point?
CiCi and GinGin: We are cold.
Me: Well, I forgot to call and order gas Friday. And we have to tough it out.
CiCi and GinGin: Why?
Me: Because if we use all the gas then I can't take a bath, and they have to come and check the lines and it's an extra $35.00. Plus I'll never find them on a Sunday.
CiCi and GinGin: But we are cold.
Me: You have fur coats.
CiCi and GinGin: What's your point?

The Planets
The planets did not line up for me today.
1. Woke up just not feeling well, still very tired from the week.
2. While texting my husband, the security system alarm went off...and I got a text that said I.C.U. Which
freaked me out...but it was David and I still don't know what he meant...but it was just too coincidental.
3. Anyway, all the phone lines in the general area were down and made the alarm system go off.
4. I didn't know that the all the phone lines were down until my neighbor called...so when I called the phone
company they assured me that my phone would be fixed by Monday evening on the 19th. Hmm.
5. During all the conversation with the phone company and the security system company. I burned the toast
and dropped and broke a new jar of home made blueberry jelly.
6. Nothing was on TV worth watching.
7. Nothing here good to eat.
8. Don't feel like going out to get anything.
9. I needed to run errands--didn't feel like going out for that either.
10. One of dogs threw up on the sheets.
11. One of the dogs threw up on the couch.
12. It's 67 degrees in the house, and I don't think I have enough butane in the tank to run the heat.
13. I know I know, my New England and Canadian friends, 67 is nothing....but I did run it for a few minutes
just to "knock the chill off."
14. Just realized that there is no spell check on here...where did it go?
15. Feeling better after nap..going to go eat a hot dog.
16. Could be much worse, I could have been impaled with a tree branch like this guy on "Trauma In The
ER."
17. More later.

Things I Bought At The Auction
At the auction they sold this as a vintage "radio." But when I got it home I realized that it is some kind of amplifier. The brand name is "Silvertone."
This is what is inside. I will get my brother to check it out. A funky vintage piece of something. Mine for $4.00
And these double Old Fashion glasses. Eight of them in pristine condition. But now that I look at that leaf pattern....hmmm. Mine for $2.50. (I don't know what is wrong with me...I don't drink, but I keep buying these kinds of things)
And this telephone table. I eyed it and knew that it would be perfect at my back door...you know when you come in and have your hands full...The reason that I think that it is a telephone a table is because see that little shelf under the top...don't you think that a telephone book would just fit perfectly under there? With your black telephone on the top? I paid too much, but I wanted it bad. Mine for $22.50
And last, but my favorite. These gorgeous glass candlesticks. You can't really see it, but they have little stars etched into them. They look very sixtyish to me. I made a new friend there who is a dealer and she told me that she thinks they may be Mikasa. Mine for $2.50!!!
So what do yawl think? How did I do?
I didn't post a signed print that I got for $2.50. Why? Because I didn't get home with it! Got to call 'em and see if they found it. I'm gonna be upset if they didn't.
