For Those Of You In Colder Regions....

please forgive us down here in Mississippi, we get all giddy-headed over a little snow and sleet,
Some of us got (reportedly) 8 inches and here where I live in Middle MS, we got about 2.  Schools closed, doctors' offices closed, pharmacies closed, government businesses closed, stores closed, it was kinda surreal as barely any traffic was moving this morning when I went to work.
There were (reportedly) 30 traffic accidents Sunday night.
Wal Mart, and every other store was out of bread, milk and eggs.
David was in hunting paradise.
Thanks to a friend of mine who grew up in Michigan I can drive (sorta) on ice and snow.  I remember the first year she moved down here in '76 how she hooted at and then stared in disbelief at all of us driving like idiots.
She drove this:

Well this isn't the actual Monte Carlo but it was very similar.  And honestly people would gawk when they saw us cruising by in the snow and ice.  She always drove with the sun roof open and that winter of  76 she almost killed me.....I stayed sick with a cold.  She never had chains on her tires but she could put that sucker in the wind/sleet/snow anywhere she wanted to go.
She taught me how to stop, how to turn my wheels and how to steer......
Anyway I am so enjoying the snow.
And I will leave you with this from Sunday night:

Avery:  "Nonna, when it snows is God happy?"
Me: "Yes."

Mommy, You Haven't

posted anything in a long time again.  Quite frankly we don't like it.  And we are kinda sad because we like to read the comments from your clogger friends.  Because sometimes they say how cute we are.  And you know we like that kind of attention.....and besides you got some cool stuff from the talkshon that you went to. I know they would like to see it..
Me:  Okay, I really don't have a good excuse except that.....well whatever.  And once again it's blogger, not clogger.  Oh and it's auction not talkshon.
I kept my eye on this vase until it was brought up--well I'm actually close friends with one of the runners and he put it up for me so that I wouldn't have to wait in anxiety for the entire auction.  Nobody but me wanted it and it was mine for $2.50.  It looks like it is hand blown glass, but what do I know?  I just know that it makes me swoon every time I look at it.  It is about 12 inches tall.....and it's purple....and it has a special place on top of my kitchen cabinets.  Oh and it has that twisty stuff in the stem....sigh....if any of you glass people think that it might indeed be hand blown, please advise.
The other thing that I bought for $2.50 is this candy dish. It is pink with purple grapes and is about 14 inches long by about 6 inches wide.  I have no idea why it appealed so to me.  But I had to have it.  It now resides on my fireplace hearth.  (Till I find out where it is suppose to reside)
Another thing that came home with me is this jug.  I love it.  It is a gallon jug that has one half of the original cork in it.  The auctioneer held it up and said "It even has the original cork in it."  And proceed to try to pull it out and broke it off.  I have the other half and I think I'm going to put it back together with a long needle to hold the two pieces together.  The runner you see in the back ground is the one I bought for 25 cents at the Salvation Army.  And that is tatted lace on the edge. It is on a chair that I bought at an estate sale. I cleaned the chair up and it is a catch all at the back door.  I think I had to pony up $7.50 for the jug, but I wanted it very badly.  It was the highest thing I bought.
When I look around my house, I realize that it is decorated with auction/estate/Salvation Army/thrift store/flea market finds.  But every single thing makes me smile.  So my decor  is eclectic junktique...
Oh and here is one more picture that makes me smile...Avery GBaby #4 and Ginger.  Like me, Avery is the only other person in the family that knows the puppies are more than just puppies.  They are real.  They are puppy girls.

Pictures From My Past

My friend Chris over here at "I'm Not Old, I'm Vintage" tagged me with a meme.  I had to think a little bit about my favorite photograph and I came up with these two.  These are two favorites of many.

This is the first one.  It is framed picture of my Mama holding Avery (#4 grandchild, who is the first child of my daughter) Look at those precious hands holding her.  I just love looking at those precious hands.  Those hands held me, comforted me, wiped my tears, sewed innumerable clothes for me, and cooked wonderful meals for me.  Once I said the thing that all kids say to their parents...you don't love me,  I'm adopted.  Her response was, look at my hands and look at your hands...they are exactly alike.  True enough they are.  But my hands will never be as precious as hers.

The second one is of me and "Tippy Toes".  I think I'm about 35 or 36 here.  I would soon be going through major surgery and 1 week after coming home, go through a devastating divorce.  This little cat was named after my very first cat.  Tippy Toes was an immense comfort to me, I remember lying in bed at night feeling so alone and that the world that I had previously known had disappeared.  Then I would feel around under the covers with my foot until I found her, and as soon as I felt that velvety black coat of hers, I would know that I was not alone.  The anxiety would leave me and I would eventually drift off to sleep.  She was an immense comfort to me.
These two pictures are side by side on my dresser and I look at them everyday before I leave for work.  They always make me happy.

Another Averyism

Avery's mama brought her over yesterday afternoon--she was going to spend the night with us.She and her mama had spent most of the day in the swimming pool. This is our conversation.
Me: Come on Avery, let's go get our baths now instead of later.
Avery: No, I don't need one, I've already had a chlorine bath.
Me: Oh.
